During my first term on the Board of Aldermen, I worked with the Public Works Commissioner and Mayor Ted Mann to expand Newton’s recycling program from just accepting two types of plastic to accepting all of the coded plastics, as well as corrugated cardboard. My efforts paid off in not only expanding the recycling program, but also in lowering our trash collection costs. Since that time, I have begun work on a proposal to expand our award-winning residential recycling program to the City’s business community, as has been done in Cambridge and elsewhere.
