I believe thThe people of Newton want to live in a diverse community. Yet the lack of affordable housing threatens to eliminate that diversity. In order to keep Newton a vibrant community, I worked with my colleagues Marcy Johnson and Brian Yates on updating the City's "inclusionary zoning" ordinance. As a result, Newton will encourage developers to create affordable units, while limiting the overall size of developments to make sure they are compatible with the neighborhoods in which they are located.

Also, I wrote the proposal to implement the Community Preservation Act (CPA) in Newton. CPA provides funds for the development of affordable housing (as well as for the preservation of open space, the creation of recreation fields, and the preservation of historic structures).
